Sila Park

Officially established in 1997 but operational since 1968, the Sila National Park extends over Europe's largest plateau — between Sila Grande, Sila Piccola, and Sila Greca — in the provinces of Cosenza, Catanzaro, and Crotone. Its mission is to protect the most valuable environments, support traditional activities (agro-silvo-pastoral, artisanal, food and wine, and tourism), and promote environmentally compatible economic and social development for the local communities.

The Park provides a Geoportal — an online territorial information system, open to all — and works with Europarc Federation and Federparchi on renewing the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST), a path that also supports its candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage. Sila is also a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve: 355,000 hectares and 66 Municipalities where human activities, nature, and settlements coexist in harmony.
